So, despite the image that this blog puts off, I have actually been doing stuff. Listed below are some highlights:
1. I had what some might call an "absolutely major FREAK OUT" over how long I should stay in Chile. After a few weeks of emotional messiness, I decided to stick with my plan of staying until the beginning of 2010. Yayyy.
2. I've decided to work toward a Advanced Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages through Seattle University's School of Teaching English. Part of my FREAK OUT was based on the reality that in Chile, I am more or less only capable of one occupation (you guessed it...). Altough I love teaching English, there are extremely limited opportunities for career advancement, not to mention reaching higher income brackets. Those of you who know me realize that this would make me absolutely crazy. (Where am I goingggggg?!?! What is my goal??!?!?!?! Ack! cry. cry. cry. cry. Ack!) Since I'd like to pursue a career in immigrant refugee education when I'm back stateside, the Advanced Certificate seemed to be a good way to move forward in my current occupation while also preparing myself for future opportunities. Ahhhhh, and now I can sleep again.
3. I was an escort to a fancy pants wedding in Buenos Aires.
The reception was held at a French style Palace. Pretty, huh?
4. I went to Quintay. They used to kill whales there, but they don't anymore. You can wander the grounds of the old whale processing facilities for 500 pesos. (less than $1US)

5. One day I wore a silly wig.
6. I spent a weekend in Pichidangui. It was peaceful and windy. You can see a highly representative you tube video of the beach here, although I'm not sure why you would want to...

7. Roommate Meredith organized a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner at our place. I made the pies. (claro.) Since pumpkin doesn't exist here, I made a zapallo pie. To appease a picky eater, I also made an apple raspberry pie (find recipie here). Meredith prepared a Turkey! It was her first turkey, and although she had a bad case of the first turkey jitters, any many uniquely Chilean challenges along the way, it turned out fantastic! I'm sure she will post about it on her blog, and you should all read it.

Besos,
Allie

Well done...good to hear news from you. Nice pic's...Ulalena...(is a wind unique to Maui) checking out the u-tube video of that beach reminded me of it. Oh how I'm missing it...I'm envious of your sunshine there. I must say you're looking chipper (–adjective: marked by or being in sprightly good humor and health). Good luck in your endeavors...Those pies look delicious.
...thanks!
