I have a friend! And new room! And a headache!

Friday was both very good and very bad.

Very bad:‭ ‬Last day of Spanish classes‭ (‬boo‭!)‬,‭ ‬and I found out that I wont start teaching ANY classes until March‭ ‬17th‭ (‬double boo‭!)‬.

Very good:‭ ‬I made some friends‭! ‬Jackie and Julie are also new teachers at one of the schools where I will be working.‭ ‬Julie is Irish,‭ ‬and apparently has as much free time and need for companionship as I do,‭ ‬because we've spent every day together since‭ (‬aaand we already have plans for tomorrow and the next day‭)‬.‭ ‬This has been both great for my psyche and bad for my time spent speaking Spanish.‭ ‬I'm hoping that after the novelty of having an English speaking friend wears off,‭ ‬I can get back to struggling to express myself every minute of the day.‭ (‬I never thought I'd say that...‭)

I have a new room‭! ‬Same house,‭ ‬new room.‭ ‬I was offered a bigger room on the third floor so I took it.‭ ‬I'm now living next door to a‭ ‬17‭ ‬year old college freshman who has offered to be a Spanish conversation partner if I help him with English.‭ ‬Naturally,‭ ‬I'm pumped.

Yesterday new friend and I visited Pablo Neruda's house in Valparaiso,‭ ‬La Sebastiana. Somehow I forgot to take pictures of the outside, and pictures of the interior were prohibited. This is unfortunate because it was incredible. Imagine what would happen if an antique shop, an 18 year old girl, maritime charm, and every piece of Neruda's poetic grace were put into a blender and poured over a house. Purely eclectic decadence. You'll just have to come and see it for yourselves.

A few more shots of Valparaiso:

The headache is almost gone now. Blogging must be good for headaches, or maybe it isn't.

Besos,
Allie

My friend Eli's sister studied abroad in Santiago. She recommends chasing after your mugger and screaming at the top of your lungs so local neighbors will come out and help you stop crime. Also, you and Julie have to have a St. Patrick's Day celebration to rival last year!
