Brownies

For some reason, my neighborhood often smells like brownies, which makes me want to bake them all the time. Unfortunately, I have not yet found the awe inspiring jaw dropping recipe I've been looking for.

Does anyone out there in internet land have a great brownie recipe?!?!

Gracias,
Allie

Try this one!

The Ultimate Brownie. It is tall like a cakey-brownie, but is dense like a fudgy-brownie.

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:
8- 1 ounce squares of unsweetened chocolate
1 cup butter
5 eggs
3 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2-1/2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted.

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13 pan.

Melt chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat; set aside. In a mixer, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla at high speed for 10 minutes**. Blend in chocolate mixture, flour and salt until just mixed. Stir in the nuts. Pour into prepared pan.

Bake for 35-40 minutes. (Don't overbake.) Cool and frost if desired, but that is not necessary.

Your neighborhood smells like brownies because you live in the same building block as a cafe that sells brownies and alfajores, among other things, silly gringa!!!

Lucky! My place in Vina just smelled like roasted beef all the time, from the Churrasco joint across the street. I'd so much rather smell baked goods.

Hey Miguel, I'll give that I try. Thanks!

Meredith, I smell it most often in Matt's pasaje... don't know why. But, wait... what place sells brownies?!?

Erin, its a double edged sword. Now I just want to eat brownies... all the time.

One of the houses on the right hand side of pje templeman bakes bread and sells it...maybe they're branching out into the brownie market...??

Ok, the thing is that I don't think there is a brownie market here.... where are these brownies?!? I've never seen them.

Maybe this is a sign that I should get into the brownie market while there is still a shortage of suppliers...

Hey Allie -
1) I love your blog and read it religously - please add me to your list of stalkers.

2) Though not a brownie recipe; there's been a lot of hype over this chocolate chip cookie recipe printed in the New York Times recently:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/dining/091crex.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Of course this recipe is loaded with exclusive ingredients found only in the far off reaches of Whole Foods and Jacque Torres Chocolates (former pastry chef at Le Cirque according to google) but i'm sure there are sufficient substitutes available - i mean, they're just cookies right?

cheers,
mike

Hi Mike. I wasn't aware that I post religiously enough to have religious followers, but thanks for loving the blog. You've officially been added to the list of stalkers. Congrats. On a side note, if you've read my blog at all you would clearly know that I read the New York Times religiously and am therefore well aware of this recipe.... that said, I haven't tried it yet. Maybe this is a sign...

Meredith, now... what do you think the nut risk is at Desayunador? hmm.... brownies.... death.... worth it? I'm going to have to see how good they look to determine this.
